It is the County Seat for Butler County. It has both a large city feel with small town flavor which has attempted to preserve the past and plan for the future with future amenities.

History
Hamilton got its name from Fort Hamilton, an army post in the late 1700’s. Hamilton was officially incorporated in 1857. Among visiting notables was Abraham Lincoln in 1859. Hamilton was known for the paper industry, iron works, and manufacturing industries which needed a good source of water for producing its products. Chicago gangsters befriended Hamilton in the 1920’s bringing prostitution, booze and gambling and giving Hamilton the reputation of “Little Chicago” but today it is known as a City of Sculpture.
